Shuanglang Ancient Town
Shuanglang Ancient Town is located in the northeast of Dali City. Overlooking the nineteen peaks in Cangshan Mountain to the west, facing the vast Erhai Lake, leaning against the "Sacred land of Buddhism", Chicken Claw Mountain on the east, and connecting "Penglai Fairy Island", Little Putuo on the south, it is a famous provincial-level historical and cultural town in Yunnan Province and renowned as " Best Place to Enjoy for the Picturesque Sceneries of Cangshan Mountain and Erhai Lake". Shuanglang boasts a long history and brilliant culture, and is considered as one of the important origins of Neolithic Age and Bronze Age in Dali region. In addition, it used to be an important military fortress and navy base of Nanzhao Kingdom and Dali Kingdom in Tang Dynasty and Song Dynasty and the battlefield of Tianbao War in Tang Dynasty and Du Wenxiu's Uprising in Qing Dynasty. With its fertile culture soil, multiple cultures including Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism as well as the primitive religion meet and merge in Shuanglang. There are 14 historical and cultural relics including Pishe Battlefield Site, Zhengjue Temple, Yuji Nunnery, Jinbang Temple, Feiyan Temple, Jing Emperor Temple in Hongshan and Cliff Inscriptions in Qingshan Villiage, as well as well-preserved historical and cultural blocks and one hundred typical traditional residential courtyards with the Bai characteristics dating back to the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty.
