The event on Sanyue Street in Dali dates back to the Tang Dynasty and is evolved from the traditional Kwan-yin temple fair. Owing to its thriving history of 1300 years, it is renowned as "the street of thousands of years old". The event of "Sanyue Street" lasts seven days. From March 15 to 21 of the lunar calendar each year, visitors and merchants will gather in Sanyue Street at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, singing, dancing, racing horse and doing business to create a great sensation. "Sanyue Street" is not only a business fair originated 1000 years ago, but also a festival held annually in Dali. In 1991, it was defined as an ethnic festival of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. It has been included in the second national Intangible Cultural Heritage protection list publicized by the State Council In February, 2008.
