Production Process of Marble
Dali is the hometown of marble. The processing of marble is a traditional production technique in Dali created in the Tang Dynasty of more than 1000 years ago. The technological process of processing marble includes mining, cutting, polishing, molding, waxing and ornamenting. There are a variety of art forms of high aesthetic and artistic value, including common sculptures, reliefs, bonsais, screens, hanging panels, screens with a base and vases. The marble is also the best building and furniture decoration material. The marble is commonly used as the decorative material in many Chinese ancient buildings and classical furniture. The marble is world-known and its traditional production technique is handed down from generation to generation by the public. It was created as a result of creative work of all the ethnic groups in Dali in the past. It has been included in the second provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage protection list publicized by the People's Government of Yunnan Province in August, 2009.
