Architectural techniques of Bai-people dwellings
The architectural techniques of Bai-people dwellings, especially that of Xizhou Bai-people dwellings in Dali, epitomizes the architectural standard and aesthetic taste of the Bai people. The Bai-people courtyards made up of one living room and two side rooms, two living rooms and one side room, three squares and a screen wall, a quadrangle courtyard with five dooryards, hexagonal courtyard or a balcony with corridors connected at four corners are mostly wooden structure in combination of the supporting beam type and crossing bracket type, ornamented with the unique colored paintings of Bai-people dwellings on gatehouses and screen walls to create comfortable vibe of courtyard. It has been included in the first ethnic folk traditional culture protection list publicized by the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture Government in September, 2005.
